Coloring is done by a dye factory. Ekelund cannot perform dying in a cost effective manner as the village of Horred cannot process the drainage water in a safe manner.
Dying is a chemical process using large amounts of color agents and chemicals. The coloring agents and chemicals, which are not legal in Europe, is strictly controlled. Dye factories in Europe must be licensed and the regulations are strictly enforced by the authority. The dye factories also offer us as customers their certification and regulation requirements to ensure that they operate within regulations posted for them. Most of our yarn is dyed and finished by the German TVU Yarn Processing Company. At their web site, you can read about their certifications. Transportation from Germany to Sweden is done via truck-trailer. All of the yarn we use is dyed with reactive dyes, which is the same type normally used for clothing.
